Georgia 511 Celebrates 11 Years of Service this Year

ATLANTA, GA – The Georgia Department of Transportation’s Georgia 511 Travel Info system celebrates 11 years of service to Georgia travelers this year. The 511 telephone service officially launched in 2007 as Georgia’s traveler information phone number, replacing *DOT. The free service provides real-time travel information 24/7, as well as access to live operators to report incidents or request motorist assistance. There is also a website, 511GA.org, and mobile app, 511 Georgia & Atlanta Traffic, which is available for Android and iOS.

Georgia 511 by the numbers (to date):

  • 13 million calls
  • 11.8 million website sessions (511GA.org)
  • 5.6 million mobile app sessions and 300,000 downloads (Android and iOS combined)
  • 50 million email and text alerts to MyGA511 subscribers. Register at 511GA.org

As the Georgia Department of Transportation gears up for a busy summer construction schedule and the start of hurricane season (June-November), Georgians can continue to turn to 511 for all their traveler information needs.

Before getting into your car – call 511, visit 511ga.org or download the Georgia 511 app for Andriod and iOS to your mobile device where you can access statewide, route-specific information on crashes, road work, traffic and weather. Callers can transfer to operators to report incidents or request assistance on interstate or state routes across Georgia. The system can be also be used to access transit providers, major airports, rideshare organizations, tourism information and 511 systems in surrounding states.
