Intelligent Transportation Society of Georgia Announces 2019 Best of ITS Awards and Scholarship Winners

ATLANTA (November 20, 2019) – The Intelligent Transportation Society of Georgia (ITS Georgia) today announced the winners of the 2019 Best of ITS Awards and the 2019 Wayne Shackelford ITS Engineering Scholars.

“ITS Georgia takes pride in recognizing the outstanding people, projects and organizations that make our state a leader in the development, deployment and operation of intelligent transportation systems,” said Jenny Johnson, President of ITS Georgia. “We also recognize outstanding scholars who are pursuing advanced transportation technology studies at Georgia’s universities. Congratulations to all our winners.”

The 2019 Best of ITS Winners are:
• 2019 Innovation: Outside the Box Award – Presented To: City of Peachtree Corners – Project: Curiosity Lab

• 2019 ITS Small Project of Significance Award – Presented To: Aerotropolis Atlanta CIDs – Project: Virginia Avenue Smart Corridor

• 2019 ITS Large Project of Significance Award – Presented To: Augusta-Richmond County – Project: Augusta-Richmond County ATMS Expansion Project

• 2019 Outstanding Agency Contribution Award – Presented To: Smart Cities and Inclusive Innovation at Georgia Tech’s Institute for People and Technology – Project: Georgia Smart Communities Challenge

• 2019 Outstanding Individual Contribution Award – Presented To: Jenny Johnson of Kimley-Horn

• 2019 President’s Award – Presented To: Winter Horbal of Temple

For the 11th consecutive year, ITS Georgia is supporting student involvement in intelligent transportation engineering and sciences through the Wayne Shackelford ITS Engineering Scholarship Program. Mr. Shackelford was an early ITS visionary, co-founder of ITS Georgia and Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner. Each winner receives a cash prize to support their education.

The 2019 Shackelford Scholars are:
• Kathryn Popp (Georgia Tech)
• Seyed Etezady (Georgia Tech)
• Ziyi Dai (Georgia Tech)
