Location: Intelight, Inc. – Atlanta, GA

Intelight, Inc. is seeking an experienced Traffic Signal Engineer to work in our Atlanta office under a Professional Engineer/Professional Traffic Operations Engineer. The desirable candidate has experience with, or a basic knowledge of traffic signal timing optimization and basic traffic signal controller parameters.

As a member of our services team, the Traffic Signal Engineer will provide support on the Statewide Signal Upgrade contract, signal timing projects, and other services tasks to support customers. Duties will include supporting coordination/management of project activities, modeling/producing/optimizing signal timings, signal timing troubleshooting, signal timing database conversions, training for agencies, database testing, signal timing services, etc. The position may require 25% out of town travel, mostly within Georgia.

At a minimum, the candidate must have:

-B.S. in Civil Engineering,
-Four to seven (4-7) years of related experience
-Minimum registered Engineer in Training (EIT)
-Have a PE or be able to obtain a PE within the first year
-Be willing to work in the Atlanta office

Additional desired skills include:

-Excellent verbal and written communication skills, direct experience working with field deployed traffic signal controllers and/or systems; general knowledge of terminology, concepts, and general practices associated with signal timing operations.
-IMSA certifications are a plus.

Engineer III: $62,262 – $82,497/year
Engineer IV: $67,711 – $89,717/year

The Department of Transportation consists of three groups: Contracted Operations, Capital Program Delivery and Traffic Engineering, Operations and Maintenance.

The Department maintains an infrastructure system that includes more than 2,500 miles of road, over 700 signalized intersections, thousands of miles of traffic striping, the Gwinnett County Transit System and one of the five busiest airports in Georgia. The Department performs this mission with 152 approved full-time positions and a 2017 adopted operating budget of just over $40 million in multiple funds.

The Traffic Engineering Division has a Traffic Signal Engineer vacancy in the Traffic Signals and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Section. The Traffic Signal Engineer may be filled at the Engineer III or Engineer IV level depending on certifications and experience. This position is responsible for:

Performing engineering analysis and evaluation of traffic signals and other traffic control devices;

Managing traffic signal upgrades and timing optimization projects;

Overseeing the work of engineering consultants and technicians;

Performing in-house analyses and evaluation studies to include:

analyzing and evaluating factors to determine transportation needs;

preparing technical reports of studies for division/department;

evaluating results and determining the most appropriate and cost-effective method of repairing defects;

providing technical expertise and advice in resolving a variety of operational problems; and

Responding to citizen service requests by conducting investigations of field conditions, reviewing existing files and revising timing plans as needed.

This is a safety-sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace.

The grade for Engineer III is C45(1).
The grade for Engineer IV is D61(1).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Engineer III:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering
Two years of progressively responsible engineering experience
Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) preferred
Valid Georgia Driver’s License

Engineer IV:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering
Four years of progressively responsible Civil Engineering experience
Professional Engineer in the state of Georgia preferred
Valid Georgia Driver’s License

Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed. Safe handling and use of all equipment assigned. General knowledge of all hand tools required to install items listed above. Knowledge of various cable & power installation types. Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job. Minimum 1 year experience in job related field. Ability to work strenuously outside in all types of weather. Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. for short distances. Ability to work on uneven terrain. Ability to properly hear and understand or interpret verbal job site instructions and properly perform such instructions.
