Two lanes are now open on I-20 Westbound

ATLANTA— Georgia Department of Transportation spokesperson Natalie Dale, briefed members of the media on the status of the I-20 westbound road closures that impacted motorists earlier today. Key highlights of the briefing and detour are as follows

  • Georgia Department of Transportation teams are on site and have begun inspection and repairs.

  • Crews and contractors will begin removing concrete and excavating materials; running ground penetrating radar to inspect the stability of remaining lanes.

  • GDOT plans to open as many lanes as possible by 5 p.m., today.

  • HOV lane and adjacent lane will open no earlier than noon Tuesday.

  • AGL was working under a utility permit when buckling occurred.

  • At this time we cannot speculate as to when all lanes will be open.

    Detour Information:

  • I-20 westbound traffic is being diverted off the Interstate at I-285 (north or south). No traffic from either I-285 northbound or southbound is permitted to exit onto I-20 West
